Review: Motorola Xoom Barely There Case

Nowadays with smartphones and tablets becoming more popular and more expensive naturally we want to protect our investment. Now this usually involves equipping our new device in a protective case. Yet, with so many options out there it becomes harder and harder to pick a case that is fashionable, fits good, works well, and doesn’t add bulk to our thin devices.

In the past I have bought a new case for a new smartphone only to get rid of the case a few days later because it just wasn’t right. It usually comes down to the same few problems.

The case just doesn’t fit right. Button holes don’t line up making buttons hard to press or reach.
Case adds too much bulk. These cases often offer great protection at the cost of slimness. They are thick, heavy and just plain bulky.
Too much going on. These cases have built-in extras such as kick stands and belt clips that add to the bulk and becomes something else that just breaks over time.
Poor build quality. There is nothing worst then a case that is not built to last. They feel cheap and tend to easy break.

I have gone through all these issues with different cases in the past and have usually ended up with my phone or tablet without any protection other than me trying to be extra careful with it. This all changed once I put Case-Mate’s Barely There case on my Motorola Xoom 4G. I was immediately impressed with how well it fit. This case has a nice soft smooth finish all around that feels very nice to hold. This is also a 1 piece case that doesn’t have extra parts to clip together and take apart if you ever need to take the case off. This Xoom case is extremely thin and tight-fitting. Once I had it on I quickly forgot its even there. The Case-Mate Barely There case is perfect for anyone wanting great protection for their device without added bulk. With a large device like a tablet a large case to fit it adds weight quickly yet the Barely There case seems to make no different in weight.

Boost Mobile Samsung Transform Ultra Android Smartphone Review

The Samsung Transform Ultra for Boost Mobile is an exceptional phone for anyone wanting to enter the smartphone market. The Samsung Transform Ultra features Android 2.3, Front and Rear Cameras, Wifi, and Android Marketplace. The Transform does feature a very nice full slide out keyboard that is one of the best I have seen on a smartphone.

The Transform Ultra on Boost mobile provides a solid smartphone experience once limited to contract phones. Boost mobile has done a wonderful job at providing a phone that is affordable yet powerful. I was surprised by the performance and build quality of the Transform Ultra.

This smartphone sports some of the latest features available on phones. Wifi Direct is a new standard similar to bluetooth but using Wifi protocols as the connection type. This allows much faster transfers and better range than bluetooth. This newer standard is becoming more popular as more devices are being used wirelessly. For example many new printers not only support network printing via Wifi but also support direct printing using Wifi Direct.

Samsung Transform Ultra on Boost mobile also supports the latest Wifi standards such as Wireless N which offer better range and throughput than traditional Wireless G. It also supports the 5ghz Wireless N frequency, this improves performance in crowded areas where many people using either Wireless G or N on the 2.4 Ghz may cause reduced performance the 5 Ghz band is used by less devices meaning less likely to cause interference with nearby Wifi networks and other 2.4 Ghz devices.

The keyboard on this device is extremely easy to use with nice size keys and proper spacing in between the keys greatly reduces the chance of fat fingering the wrong key. Each key also has a nice amount of, up and down, movement when pressed which gives a good solid feel when typing.

One of my person favorite features of the Transform Ultra on Boost mobile has been using the Android operating system. The Android OS provides a great user experience with the ability to customize almost every aspect of your phone. Along with great software such as Google Apps and the Android marketplace just about anything need you want you can find an app for.

Not only does this phone have a great keyboard, the keys on the front are done very well. The leys are just the right size not too small and not too big. They also fit perfectly with the look and style of the phone.

Overall The Transform Ultra on Boost mobile offered a much higher level of performance and features then I would have expected for the price. Screen quality is great, call quality couldn’t have been better. I never had any dropped calls while testing this phone and never had any data drop issues. I found the 3G speed to do extremely well pretty much everywhere I went.

If you’re looking at dropping your contract phone and going with a phone with no contracts this should be the first phone on your list to look at.
